Traffic Diversion Due to Downed Power Line [Updated]

Traffic is currently being diverted from the Middle Road, Montpelier Road Devonshire area due to a downed power line. BELCO has been notified; however motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible until the situation can be rectified.

Update: The downed power line in the Middle Road, Montpelier Road Devonshire area reported around 8am Friday, February 7th has since been rectified.

Motorcyclist in ICU After Reported Serious Collision in Warwick

Around 3pm on Thursday, February 6th first responders were dispatched to a reported serious two vehicle collision at the junction of South Road and Marley Beach Drive in Warwick.

It appears that a motorcycle was being ridden along South Road and a truck was exiting Marley Beach Drive when the vehicles collided. The injured motorcyclist, believed to be a 51 year old Warwick man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment

Around 3pm Thursday, February 6th first responders were dispatched to a reported serious collision on South Road in Warwick in the vicinity of Marley Beach. Details are limited at this time; however the collision apparently involved a truck and a motorcycle.

Man Arrested At Lindo’s Market in Devonshire

Around 6pm on Wednesday, February 5th police officers responded to a reported incident at Lindo’s Market in Devonshire.

It appears that staff members were alerted to a 41 year old Southampton man acting suspiciously around female shoppers. The suspect was confronted by a male store manager outside the premises and arrested by police after a brief altercation with that manager. There were no reported injuries.

Advisory: Residential Burglaries in Warwick & Sandys Parish

An apparent series of reported daytime burglaries occurred in the Overplus Lane, Sandys parish area as well as at Glenwood Park Crescent and South Road, Warwick on Monday, February 3rd and Tuesday, February 4th respectively. An attempted burglary was also reported in the Glenwood Park Lane, Warwick area Tuesday.

Inquiries into Monday’s three reported Overplus Lane Sandys parish burglaries as well as the one reported Glenwood Park Crescent Warwick burglary, one reported South Road Warwick burglary and one reported attempted burglary on Glenwood Park Lane in Warwick Tuesday are ongoing.

Reported Robbery

On Friday, January 31st police received a report of a robbery that apparently took place sometime between 11pm and 11:30pm Wednesday, January 29th in the South Road, Lighthouse Road Southampton area. It appears that a 30 year old male walking in that area had his workbag containing personal items stolen by suspects on motorcycles. He was not injured during the incident. Inquiries into this reported robbery are ongoing and any witnesses should contact the Western Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Traffic Diversion Due to Downed Utility Pole [Updated]

Around 10am on Monday, February 3rd police received a report that a tractor trailer pulled down a utility pole in the South Road, Smith’s parish area near Harrington Hundreds grocery store. As a result, traffic travelling west from the John Smith’s Bay area is being diverted up Harrington Hundreds Road, while traffic travelling east from McGall’s Hill will continue along Knapton Hill. Motorists are advised to be aware of these diversions and to avoid the area if possible until the situation can be rectified.

Around 8:55am Sunday, February 2nd first responders were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire along North Shore Road in Smith's parish near Bethel AME Church.

Details are limited at this time; however there were no reported injuries and the fire has since been extinguished by the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service.

2013 Fourth Quarter & Year End Crime Statistics

Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva - I am pleased to present what amounts to quite a positive year-end report on crime statistics for 2013. The overall picture is the long-term trend of total crime in Bermuda continues to be decreasing, and for the first time in five years, all major crime categories are also on a decreasing trend.

Comparing 2013 with the previous year: total crime is down from 3,990 offences to 3,480 – a reduction of 12.8%. Total crime for the year, and total crime for the 4th quarter of 2013, both stand as the lowest crime rates recorded in the last 14 years. Comparatively, total crime has fallen by 43% since the year 2000.

Man Arrested After Theft

Around 1:30pm on Wednesday, January 29th police officers responded to a reported theft at the Marketplace on Church Street in the City of Hamilton.

It appears that a 43 year old Smith’s parish woman’s wallet was removed from her grocery cart while she was shopping in the store. She appealed for help as the suspect, a 42 year old Devonshire man, attempted to flee the scene on foot.
