Burglary - Around 3:30am on Monday, Police responded to a report of a burglary at a Pembroke hotel. It appears that around 3:15am an unknown culprit gained entry into a guest room and was confronted by the occupants. The intruder made good his escape after a scuffle with the 67 year old American male visitor in the room. The visitor received minor injuries to his arm; however medical treatment was not required. His wife, a 65 year old American woman, was not injured. The surrounding area was thoroughly searched by officers however the burglar was not located. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male approximately 5’10” tall with blotches on his face wearing a green T-shirt, tan coloured pants and sneakers.
Police are following all possible lines of inquiry regarding this matter. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011. While not ruling anything out, it is too early to say whether this incident may be linked to any similar burglaries. Residents & visitors alike are reminded that all windows and doors should be locked before leaving their property/guest property unattended, even for short periods of time. Also, before retiring to bed at night all windows & doors should be locked; valuables should be kept secure and out of sight. In addition, the public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals to Police on 295-0011.
Sudden Death at Sea
Around 4:55pm on Sunday, Police received a report of a sudden death at sea onboard a sailboat enroute to Bermuda. The deceased is a 64 year old American man. The two survivors, a 63 year old American man and a 25 year old American woman, were rescued by another vessel and arrived safely in Bermuda Monday morning. The American Consulate has been informed and inquiries are underway by the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified.
Weekend Activity
Over the weekend there were 3 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 2 reported burglaries. There were also 6 reported damage only road traffic collisions, 6 reported road traffic collisions resulting in injury and 6 vehicles reported taken without their owners’ consent. |
