Around 8:20pm on Thursday, September 21st, 2023, uniformed police officers from the Roads Policing Unit were conducting speed checks on North Shore Road near the junction with Grace Lane, Pembroke Parish.
The officers attempted to stop a motorcycle clocked at 74 KPH travelling west on North Shore Road.
A police officer in uniform and standing in the roadway signaled for the rider to stop.
The rider, a male, failed to do so. Two other officer on marked motorcycles, one with emergency lights only, on, the other with emergency lights and sirens on, followed and attempted stop the rider.
He again failed to stop and continued travelling at a high rate of speed.
As the cycle approached the junction with Overview Hill, the driver suddenly decelerated and attempted a left turn onto Overview Hill, the police bike was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear tire of the cycle. Causing both cycles to come to a stop.
The officer sustained minor injuries to his arms and right knee. The rider of the other bike was not injured.
He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
A Traffic Collision Investigator and a member of the Forensic Support Unit attended and processed the scene.
Meanwhile, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of a video circulating on social media in which the person who recorded the video is accusing the police of wrongdoing in relation to this collision.
The video recording captures the aftermath of the incident, the cause of which is being investigated.
The BPS wish to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have recorded images or video of the lead-up to the collision if not the collision itself, to please call the main police number, 295-0011.
