Two Hand Guns Recovered

Two Hand Guns Recovered  Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Martin Weekes - The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) have recovered two handguns this week both thanks to assistance form the public. The first recovery was made on Tuesday 7th August, when a member of the public discovered a hand gun in the St. David’s area and alerted police. The second recovery was made on Wednesday 8th August after a member of the public alerted police to a hand gun found in the waters off of South Shore. Investigations have commenced into both incidents, the weapons have been processed and are currently being forensically examined to ascertain whether they have been used in the commission of crimes.  A total of 5 firearms have been recovered by the BPS since January 2018 and we would like to take this opportunity to thank those members of the public who have assisted police with these recoveries.  We would like to encourage anyone who may have information regarding these two firearms or any knowledge of other firearms to contact police on 295-0011 or by calling the confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477.  



Investigation Into Chain Snatching Incidents

Police are currently investigating two incidents of chain snatching, which took place on South Road yesterday 7th August, in a short space of time. Around 10:00am the male victim was travelling east along South Road, Paget near Stovell Lane, when two men on a motorcycle road alongside victim, grabbing ahold of the chain around his neck. They were unsuccessful in their attempt to take the chain, but were able to make good on their escape, traveling in an easterly direction along South Road.

Altercation at Paradise Lakes The Bermuda Police Service is aware of several videos circulating on social media in relation to an altercation on the water in the area of Paradise Lakes shortly after 8pm on Sunday 5th August. As a result of this incident, two men and a woman attended KEMH and were subsequently released following treatment. There were numerous individuals on several marine vessels in the area at the time. Police are interested in speaking to those individuals who were in the immediate vicinity of the altercation and also anyone who may have video footage of the incident. Anyone with any information should call the Criminal Investigation Department on 247-1044 or the confidential Crime Stoppers line on 800-8477.  



Cup Match Holiday Report

As of 9:00 am on Saturday, August 4, 2018, the Bermuda Police Service can report that there were no major incidents island-wide. We would like to advise the public that the police will continue their highly visible presence on our roads and waterways for the duration of the holiday period.  People should obey all waterway and road laws and be reminded that drinking and driving or riding under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is prohibited. During the period between Wednesday, August 1st at 11:00pm and Friday, August 3rd at 11:00pm, there were nine collisions, four of those collisions resulted in injury. Seven people were arrested for driving under the influence, two people arrested for drugs, nine people arrested on warrants and one high speed chase.

Theft from Marine Vessels Over the last few weeks a number of personal water craft as well as commercial vessels have been broken into and had items taken from vessels. In some cases, large amounts of alcohol, boat parts and other valuables such as fishing equipment have been removed and these occurrences have been island wide. Police are advising the public to lock and secure your valuables and where possible remove those items from your vessels. We are also requesting that if you see anyone acting suspiciously please make note of the vessel, get a  description of the suspects and notify 2950011.”
